Hope starts with a home

Since 1992, Habitat for Humanity South Sarasota County has been a movement of people in your community, working together to build prosperous and healthy communities by making sure everyone has a decent, safe, affordable place to call home. Together, we have helped hundreds of families build their lives on their own terms, starting with the foundation of a safe and decent home.

We do this by working alongside families to build, repair, and finance their homes, and by innovating new ways of building and financing to make it easier for others to do the same. Every safe, affordable home sparks wider change - better health, stronger education, greater well-being, economic growth, and less poverty. Peace of mind and the ability to focus on what matters most - it all starts with a home. But there is so much more to do. Get involved. Together, we build homes, community, and hope.

Our Faith Foundation

At HFHSSC, our work is guided by a deep and unwavering faith. We believe that every person is created in the image of God, deserving dignity, respect, and love. Our mission is not only about building homes but also about nurturing hope, strengthening communities, and reflecting God’s love through service. Rooted in scripture and prayer, our efforts aim to transform lives both physically and spiritually, reminding us that the act of building is also an act of faith.

Our faith compels us to walk alongside families, volunteers, and partners as we build together. We embrace diversity, welcoming people of all backgrounds and beliefs into our mission, united by a common calling to serve. By living out our faith in action, we seek to be a beacon of God’s grace—creating spaces of shelter, belonging, and opportunity, where lives are changed and hope is restored.

Who We Serve

Our homeowners include families, individuals, veterans, and seniors earning 55% to 80% of the area’s median income, as defined by HUD. They come from diverse backgrounds but share a common goal: securing safe, affordable housing.

Habitat for Humanity South Sarasota County serves the communities of Osprey, Laurel, Nokomis, Venice, North Port, and the Sarasota County side of Englewood. To qualify, applicants must demonstrate a need for housing, live or work within our service area, show a willingness to partner, and have the ability to pay an affordable mortgage.

We uphold a strict nondiscriminatory policy, ensuring that race or religion is never a factor in homeownership.

Our success is built on comprehensive support services that guide families through the homebuying process—making homeownership achievable and sustainable for those who need it most.

Non-Proselytizing Policy

Habitat for Humanity and its affiliate organizations will not proselytize. Nor will Habitat work with entities or individuals who insist on proselytizing as part of their work with Habitat. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must adhere to or convert to a particular faith or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

Habitat South Sarasota is proud to tithe to Habitat for Humanity Honduras through the Low-Income Tithe Priority Program. Since 1989, Habitat Honduras has worked to break the cycle of poverty by providing safe, affordable housing to families living in vulnerable conditions. Through new home construction, critical repairs, disaster response, and financial education, Habitat Honduras helps families build strength, stability, and self-reliance. Our tithe supports this life-changing work and allows us to partner in Habitat’s global mission of building homes, communities, and hope in some of the world’s most underserved areas.
