This Holiday Season, Give the Gift of Home

"My daughters and I were so excited when we became homeowners through Habitat for Humanity South Sarasota’s home ownership program earlier this year. Our faith was tested in so many ways while we were working toward that moment. But when Hurricane Ian, a category 4 storm, was headed straight for our home in North Port, our faith was facing a whole new test.

Everyone was preparing for the worst. I prayed to God for protection during the storm and asked Him to keep us and our home safe. We rode out the storm without having to evacuate and felt safe knowing that our newly-built home had hurricane-proof windows and strong walls. It made all the difference being wrapped in safety and all the love that was poured into the building of our Habitat house.

But I knew that God had answered my prayers even long before the dangers of the storm by putting us in this new Habitat home. We are grateful to God for His protection, and are so thankful for all those who helped to build such a wonderful gift that our home is to us."

- Regina P., Habitat Homeowner

Dear Habitat Family,

Regina and her daughters are some of our most recent homeowners who experienced such great tests of their faith. When hearing their story, a verse from a popular song comes to mind, “Oceans” by Hillsong United; “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders. Let me walk upon the waters wherever you would call me. Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander and my faith will be made stronger in the presence of my Saviour.”

This song recounts Matthew 14 v22-33, of Peter being called by Jesus to walk on water. Peter did so but temporarily lost faith and started to sink, forcing him to call on Jesus to help him.

We believe in the mission of Habitat for Humanity South Sarasota. Please take a minute to read it and reflect upon how important it is; "Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity South Sarasota brings people together to build homes, communities and hope."

Isn’t this a critical mission? To promote dignity and hope in those we serve by the grace of God. Peter has proven that we all need a hand-up sometimes, and Jesus gave him that. He did not walk it for him, but with him.

For the past 30 years, people have counted on us to be good stewards of the mission at Habitat South Sarasota. As families continue to rely on us for a better future through affordable housing and education, we are growing a strong local community with their success!

We are calling you to action, to walk alongside our partner families. You can become ambassadors and advocates of the mission of Habitat South Sarasota! We ask that you reach into your heart and be as generous as you can to help us serve those who come to us seeking a change in their lives and the lives of their families.

We thank you for the many blessings that you bestow upon us!

May God bless you and your family this Holiday Season.

Your Habitat South Sarasota family.
