Habitat for Humanity South Sarasota County, Inc. works in partnership with God’s people in need to provide affordable, safe, decent housing.

COMMITTEES:


FAITH BASED ORGANIZATIONS: Member’s discover ways to best petition area churches for the purposes of introducing Habitat’s mission , needs , promoting good will and partnerships, finding families in need of our program and asking for house sponsorships and volunteers. Church bulletin articles, pulpit talks, refreshment groups and offerings.


PLANNED GIVING AND INDIVIDUAL DONORS: Members share and offer information, speakers and solutions about ways to give through planned gifts, wills and trusts to leave your legacy or your families, to help carry on Habitat’s mission for years to come, in your name. Member’s also strive to make every donor feel appreciated, remain loyal and create influence in the community to open doors to create more Habitat awareness and funding. With phone calls, tours, thank you notes, event happening updates and public research, these donors and prospects are the heart of Habitat’s financial success. Ongoing contact list updates, individual visits and asks, phone calls and networking.


BUSINESS & CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS: Members strive to create special incentives for business and civic groups to become house sponsors on a regular basis. Brochures, sponsorship benefits, promoting in kind gifts and name recognition programs along with personal visits, networking and asks.


SPECIAL EVENTS: Members target annual and new events and coordinate them with area calendars for maximum impact. Create support materials, sell tickets, sponsorships’ and solicit for silent auction and raffle items. Coordinate guest invites, events logistics and assist during the events.


FOUNDATIONS & GOVERNMENT COMMITTE: Members lobby local, regional and national Foundations for funding sources within Habitat’s focus. Opening doors for Habitours, site visits and awareness of Habitat’s multifaceted reach within our community.


FAMILY SELECTION: This committee requires dedicated people who will have the responsibility of recruiting, interviewing and recommending families for the homes to be built and who will make good Habitat “Partners”.


FINANCE:  This Committee is responsible for the financial affairs of the Affiliate including budgeting, profit and loss and balance sheet reporting, management of loans and investments, statutory reporting, and auditing activities.  In addition, the committee oversees the day-to-day financial activities performed in the office such as bill paying, deposits and record keeping.


GOVERNANCE:  This Committee is responsible for recommending to the Board a slate of officers, committee chairpersons and director candidates that can carry out the mission of the Affiliate.  In addition, the Committee works with the Board and Executive Director on strategic planning, goal setting, performance appraisal, Board evaluation, and by-laws.


PUBLIC RELATIONS & COMMUNICATIONS: The Communication Committee is concerned with the manner in which Habitat South presents itself to the public. Their presentations include, but are not limited to: press releases and articles originated for distribution to local media; The Rafters, a quarterly newsletter, one of which is the Annual Report; the Habitat South website and other electronic media used; and the Speakers’ Bureau. Volunteers Interested and experienced in writing, graphic arts, public speaking, and photography, are welcome.


FAMILY SUPPORT:  This committee of volunteer sponsors provides one on one support to the families as they progress through the program to get a home and after they are living in it.


REFRESHMENTS: Refreshment providers furnish simple refreshments to one of the job sites on a rotating basis.  Refreshment ideas include cookies, donuts, muffins, etc and soda or water.


BUILDING: Building Committee oversees the construction of our homes including the refurbishment of acquired properties. The committee coordinates volunteer and Partner Family involvement in the building process, solves construction and scheduling problems and provides guidance to the site manager.

 

LONG RANGE PLANNING: oversees site selection, development and preparation, infrastructure, design, surveying and engineering. This includes evaluating existing properties for acquisition. The committee will strive to maintain an inventory of sites equal to three years of building activity and approved plans and permits to keep pace with the annual build rate.

VOUNTEER COMMITTEE:
The Volunteer Committee works with the staff, Volunteer Coordinator and the entire affiliate organization to provide volunteer resources for committees, projects, construction, ReStore, office and other activities of the organization.
